The Guardian has appointed Dan Sabbagh, the head of media and technology, as its head of national news.
Sabbagh replaces Dan Roberts, who is moving to be the Guardian’s Washington bureau chief. Ewen MacAskill will return to London after six years as the paper’s Washington bureau chief.
Sabbagh joined the Guardian in November 2010 as head of media and technology, including the MediaGuardian website.
He is a former media editor of the Times and previously worked as a city reporter at The Daily Telegraph and as senior reporter on the magazine Computing.
